SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Behind goals from seniors
Morgan Sickels and
Carrie Hughes on Senior Day, the Skidmore College field hockey team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 2-0 at Wagner Park on Sunday. With the victory, Skidmore secured a spot in the Liberty League Tournament as the fifth seed. Skidmore will travel to the fourth seed (still to be determined) for a First Round game on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

- The Thoroughbreds finish league play with a 3-4 record. The victory clinches at least a tie with Union barring play on Sunday. Skidmore holds the tiebreaker with a head-to-head win over the Dutchwomen on Oct. 14.
- Skidmore improves to 10-8 overall.
- The Engineers fall to 7-9 and 1-6.
- Sickels took a pass from CC Wetter on a rush and scored with 2:24 remaining in the first quarter on a 1-on-1 with the goalie.
- The breakthrough tally for the Thoroughbreds came after six shots on goal were saved by RPI goalie Sarah Nace over the first 10:32 of play.
- Hughes blasted in a shot off a Skidmore penalty corner for insurance at 42:35. Gillian Maher and Tobi Dolan assisted.
- Victoria Bodnar made five saves, including four in the second half alone, to secure her third shutout of the year.
- Skidmore edged RPI in shots, 12-10.
- Penalty corners finished knotted at six.
- NEXT UP: Skidmore closes the regular season with a pair of non-league games. The Thoroughbreds will host Utica University on Wednesday, Oct. 26 before traveling to Cortland to close the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 29. Â Â
