Thoroughbreds strengthen hold on playoff berth with 2-0 win at SLU

CANTON, N.Y.— Kat Dunn scored two goals and Claire Wolgast had 10 saves to lead the Skidmore College women's soccer team to a 2-0 road win over St. Lawrence University Saturday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds are 8-2-3 overall and 3-1-3 in Liberty League play. The Saints drop to 6-5-2 and 2-4-1.
 
  • Skidmore is alone in fourth place with 12 points and two games league games to play. The top six teams make the playoffs, with first and second getting byes into the semifinals and third and fourth hosting quarterfinal games. The Thoroughbreds are at Union on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. and at Bard on Oct. 29.
  • Kat Dunn made it 1-0 early from Kyra Russman-Araya at 3:29. Dunn then put the game away with her seventh goal of the season at 66:00. It was her second two-goal game of the year (New Paltz).
  • SLU outshot Skidmore 22-15, while corners were even at 3-3. Wolgast was solid again in net with 10 saves, including six in the second half for her fifth shutout of the season.
  • The win is Skidmore's first over the Saints in 12 contests (1-10-1). The last win coming in 2010. The Thoroughbreds haven't won in Canton since 2009.
  • NEXT UP: A big Liberty League match at Union (8-5-2, 2-4-1) on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
