Late goal powers Thoroughbreds over Engineers

TROY, N.Y. – Senior Rory Millar scored in the 88th minute to break a scoreless tie and lead the Skidmore College men's soccer team to a 1-0 road victory over Rensselaer on Saturday.
 
  • Skidmore improves to 5-1-3 and 2-0-1 in the Liberty League. RPI drops to 3-4-3 and 1-1-1. The Thoroughbreds are tied with St. Lawrence for second place in the league.
  • A long throw in from the hands of Max Heberlein deflected off a pair of heads in the RPI box out towards Millar. Millar played the volley and beat Engineer goalkeeper Colin Such from 24 yards out inside the left post on a bounce.
  • It is the seventh consecutive meeting with RPI that was decided by one or fewer goals. Skidmore is now 2-4-2 over that nine-year span.
  • Skidmore squeaked out a narrow 10-9 edge in shots. The Thoroughbreds put three shots on goal, while the hosts managed just one.
  • Kamal Ibrahim and Hyungbin Kim led Skidmore with two shot attempts and one shot on goal apiece.
  • Bobby Stratts posted his second consecutive clean sheet with one 21st-minute save.
  • The Thoroughbreds also edged Rensselaer in corner kicks at 4-1.
  • RPI was called for 15 fouls and five cautions. Skidmore was whistled for six fouls and a pair of yellow cards.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will host first-place Vassar on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.
