ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Emma Waite bounced in a layup while being fouled and hit the ensuing free throw with less than a second remaining in double overtime for RIT as the Tigers handed the Skidmore College women's basketball team a 57-56 Liberty League defeat on Saturday afternoon.

Clare Driscoll put Skidmore ahead by two just seconds earlier when she swooshed a mid-range jumper off the feed from
Andi Levitz. Driscoll, who led Skidmore with 21 points and three blocks, tied the game at 54 in the paint on Skidmore's previous possession. Prior that bucket, the Tigers held the Thoroughbreds scoreless over the previous 11:42. Neither team scored in the first overtime period, nor the first 3:19 of the second extra session. Sarah Henretta broke the streak for RIT with a go-ahead jumper.

Kaleesha Joseph sent the game into overtime with a game-tying basket with 10 seconds left in regulation. The hosts trailed by as much as nine in the fourth quarter. Â Â

Skidmore spent most of the afternoon with the lead, and all but 1:29 of the contest went by with the Thoroughbreds either ahead or tied. Skidmore got off to a dominating start, scoring the contest's first seven points and building its lead up to 14 in the first quarter. The Tigers held it within single digits and led by one, 37-36, for 24 seconds in the third quarter. It was RIT's only lead of the game before overtime.

Kate McCarney played all but two minutes and posted a double-double for Skidmore. She had 13 points and 10 rebounds. She also hit three of the five made 3-pointers by the Thoroughbreds.
Maddie Hastings had a game-high five steals, three assists, and eight rebounds with four points.
Julia Blanck and
Sarah Chambers had seven points each.

For RIT, Joseph's double-double consisted of a game-high 28 points, 14 boards, and a 6-of-7 mark from the free throw line. Sydney Pearson scored 17 for the Tigers and was 5-of-11 from 3-point range.

Skidmore is 6-2 with the defeat and 1-2 in the Liberty League following the first game for the Thoroughbreds in 35 days. RIT is 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the league. Skidmore will travel to William Smith College on Tuesday, Jan. 11 for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
