SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team has announced its 2022 season schedule.
 
The Thoroughbreds have a 35-game regular season lined up, along with an 18-game Liberty League slate. Skidmore is schedule to host 11 contests at the Castle Diamond. "We are eager and excited to get the season going after the past couple seasons have been shortened," said Skidmore coach Ron Plourde. "The schedule will be challenging early on and will be a good test as we head into league play."
 
The season will kick off with road matches at the United State Merchant Marine Academy and SUNY Old Westbury March 5 and 6. Then, the Thoroughbreds will head off to Fort Myers, Florida for a nine-game stay at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Florida opponents include Wisconsin Lutheran College, University of Wisconsin-Stout, Eastern Connecticut State, Defiance College, and Lasell University.
 
With a new conference format, all Liberty League competition will be played in three-game series. The Ithaca series at home (March 26-27) and away at St. Lawrence (April 30-May 1) will be the only two played all at a single location. The rest will feature a scheduled doubleheader as well as a single game at the opposite host location.    
 
The Thoroughbreds will play two at Union on Saturday, April 2 followed by a single home game on Sunday, April 3. The following weekend, Skidmore will host RPI in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9 before completing the series in Troy on Sunday, April 10. Then, a three-game series with Vassar kicks off at the Castle Diamond on Friday, April 15 with a doubleheader to follow on the road on Saturday, April 16.
 
The Thoroughbreds will play two at Bard on Saturday, April 23 and finish the series at home on April 24. Sprinkled in are non-league games at home versus Castleton (March 30, April 6) and Sage (April 27). Road non-conference games are scheduled at Williams (April 13), Castleton (April 20), and Middlebury (April 26).
 
A best-of-three crossover playoff series will take place May 7 and 8. The Liberty League Tournament will be hosted the following week (May 12-14).  
 
"We have a strong culture with this group and look forward to competing with them throughout the season," Plourde said. "They bring high energy and are ready to prove themselves."
