SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Hobart defeated Skidmore 1-0 in Liberty League men's soccer action on Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
 
Charlie Widing scored the lone goal of the match for the Statesmen in the 29
th minute. Matias Valenzuela Matic sent a pass to a streaking Widing, who found an empty net despite Skidmore goalkeeper 
Bobby Stratts being able to get a partial deflection with his left mitt.
 
Skidmore is now 5-3 and 1-1 in the Liberty League. Hobart improves to 4-3-1 and 1-0-1.
 
The Thoroughbreds won the shot battle, 11-7, but were unable to generate many quality scoring opportunities against Guillermo Castaneda Chang and the Statesmen back line. Chang made three saves in the shutout.
 
Roman Toepler shared the game-high with three shots. 
Perry Sofis-Scheft and 
Ethan Slager each had two.
 
The Thoroughbreds turn around with a non-conference game on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at home for a night game against SUNY Cobleskill.
