Thoroughbreds move into playoff contention with series sweep of RIT

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— The Skidmore College softball team competed the four-game Liberty League series sweep of RIT with 10-5 and 3-0 wins Sunday at Wagner Park.
 
The Thoroughbreds move into fourth place in the Liberty League with an 8-6 overall and 8-6 league record. The Tigers are 5-22 and 2-19.
 
GAME 1
 
Skidmore set the tone early with five runs in the first inning. RIT scored two in the third to cut it to 5-3. The Thoroughbreds added one in the fourth and two in the fifth on consecutive bases loaded walks.  The Tigers came back with three in the sixth to close to 8-5, but a pair of runs in its half of the inning secured the win.
 
Chloe McGonagle was 3-4 with two runs and an RBI. Genesis Delgado was 2-3 with two runs and an RBI and Kaitlyn Judd went 2-3 with a run. Lindsey Raimondi got the win. She went four innings, allowing 2 runs (one earned) on three hits, with one strikeout and five walks. Hannah Davis earned the three-inning save.
 
Game 2
 
Solo home runs off the bats of Katie Anderson and Davis provided all the offense Skidmore would need. Several outstanding defensive plays kept the Tigers off the board, including several by McGonagle who had five putouts and three assists at second base.
 
Meghan Robertson had the complete game shutout. She allowed five hits.  Davis finished 2-3. Franchesca Casillas was also 2-3.
