SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—Playing with a full roster for the first time this season, the Skidmore College women's tennis team beat Union College 9-0 Sunday afternoon.
Â
It was the first match in two weeks for the Thoroughbreds (3-0, 3-0 Liberty) who handed the Dutchwomen (2-1, 2-1) their first loss of the season.
Â
All-American
Risa Fukushige made the most of her 2021 debut with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number one singles over Megan Brown and an 8-5 win at number one doubles with
Maya Lal over Brown and Marilena Karadimou.
Â
"The uncertainty and the starting and stopping is so tough, but I give these players a ton of credit for staying tough and playing through it these last few weeks," said Skidmore head coach
Curt Speerschneider. "What we're lacking with normal match experience at this point we're certainly making up with determination and hard work, which says a lot about this group.Â
Â
"It was nice to finally have a full lineup for this one too, and I know the team enjoyed being together again. We'll see what the next week brings us."
Â
Skidmore is scheduled to be at RPI on April 24.
