Skidmore women extend Liberty League streak to 34

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— A shorthanded Skidmore College women's tennis team won every contested match in a 7-2 Liberty League win over RIT Saturday afternoon on the Wenger Courts.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Maya Lal defeated Claire Casalnova 7-5, 6-0 at number one singles and paired with Lily Feldman for an 8-2 number one doubles win over Casainova and Abby Murray.

"Obviously it felt good being out there again with real competition after more than a year," said Skidmore coach Curt Speerschneider.  "In a sign that we're still in the midst of a dangerous pandemic we had to play down a few players because of quarantine precautions.

"Despite the unprecedented circumstances we played well and with a lot of composure.  We knew there would be a lot of physical and mental uncertainty being off that long, so tried to concentrate on the things we could control.  It was nice to get the first one so we can continue our building process in this shortened season."
