SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team opens its Liberty League schedule against Clarkson Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Williamson Sports Center. The weekend continues Saturday at 4 p.m. versus St. Lawrence.
The 4-1 Thoroughbreds are coming off their first defeat of the season to Utica on Tuesday, 88-72.
The Golden Knights (0-4) are in search for their first win of the season, but have played all four if their games on the road. Last time out, Clarkson fell to cross-town rival SUNY Potsdam, 90-63. The Saints are unbeaten at 4-0 with wins over Alfred State (80-67), Alfred (69-65, OT), Plattsburgh State (85-70), and SUNY Potsdam (70-61). St. Lawrence opens Liberty League play Friday at Union.
Skidmore features five players averaging double figures in scoring, led by
Tautvydas Kupstas with 17.8 points per game.
Greg Skoric is averaging a double-double with 14.4 ppg and 12.2 rebounds per game.
Ty Lamport enters with a 13.2 point scoring average, while
Riley Greene averages 11 points and seven assists per game.
Harrison Eichelberger bumped his seaso naverage to 10.6 ppg after he scored 21 on Tuesday. As a team, the Thoroughbreds are 42.3 percent accurate from the field and 71.4 percent from the free throw line.
Ryan Miles-Ferguson is Clarkson's leader in scoring with a 17.0 scoring average. He also leads the team in grabbing 8.8 rebounds per game and has 11 total assists. Blake Gearhart (14.3 ppg) and Chris Hulbert (10.3 ppg) are the other two Golden Knights who average double figures in scoring.
For St. Lawrence, Will Engelhardt leads the way with 19.3 points per game. For a team that shoots from 3-point range about 30 percent less often than Skidmore, Engelhardt is shooting 52 percent from long range. Trey Syroka averages 16.8 points per contest and Trent Adamson sits at 14.8 ppg for the Saints.
