Friday Toy Drive highlights home weekend for Thoroughbred skaters

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College hockey team returns to New England Hockey Conference action at home Friday at 7 p.m. against #5 Hobart and Saturday at 4 p.m. against Elmira.
 
Friday's game will feature a Toy Drive with Franklin Community Center. The first 50 donations will get a "Skidmore Hockey" Sticker. Admission is free and there will be a free fan bus from Case Center at 6:30 p.m. The team will have a 50/50 raffle with all proceeds going to Franklin Community Center.

Skidmore (4-3-1, 1-2-1 NEHC) is coming off a championship in the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. The Thoroughbreds beat Conn College 1-0 in the title game. Everett Wardle (4 goals, 5 assists, 9 points) and Kaeden Patrick (5-3—8) lead the team in scoring through eight games. Tate Brandon has a 2.30 goals against average and .918 save percentage in seven starts.
 
Hobart (6-1-1, 3-0-1) has been off since a 12-1 on Nov. 20 against Johnson & Wales. Zach Tyson (2-8—10), Jonah Alexander (1-8—9), Luke Aquaro (7-2—9) and Aaron Maguyon (7-2—9) are the top scorers for the Statesmen. Senior goalies Joe Halstrom (1.60 GAA, .925 sv%) and Liam Lascelle (1.67, .918) had split time.
 
Elmira (5-2-1, 2-1-1 NEHC) is finding early success in its first NEHC season. Janis Vizbelis (7-4—11) and Shawn Kennedy (4-6—10) lead the Soaring Eagles in scoring. Chris Janzen has a 2.69 GAA and .899 sv% in seven games.
