Geiger ’19 and Kaiser ’20 added to baseball coaching staff

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Skidmore College head baseball coach Ron Plourde has announced two alumni have been added to his coaching staff. Pat Geiger '19 and Jonathan Kaiser '20 will both serve as assistant coaches for the Thoroughbreds.

Geiger had a stellar playing career at Skidmore and is statistically one of the top hitters in program history. Earning the rank of co-captain, Geiger suited up in 117 games in his career, batting .328 with 131 hits, 35 doubles, 72 RBI, and slugging percentage of .538. He is second in program history with 15 home runs. He was also a strong defensive catcher for the Thoroughbreds, logging 171 putouts against just three errors for a .984 fielding percentage in his senior year.

Geiger was named the Liberty League Player of the Year in 2019. He was also a First-Team American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-New York Region and D3 Baseball First Team All-Region honoree. The same year, he became the first Skidmore player to be named an All-American. Geiger will be working with the catchers as well as the Thoroughbred hitters.

Kaiser joins the staff after a strong career on the mound for the Thoroughbreds. He had a breakout year in his junior season, leading the pitching staff with a 2.95 ERA while averaging a strikeout per inning against just four walks in 18 innings of work. Kaiser earned a three-inning save versus Catholic University early in the 2020 season before the season was halted.

Kaiser used his additional year of eligibility at Division 1 George Mason University in 2021, where he led the team with 14 appearances and was second in wins. Kaiser will head the Thoroughbred pitching staff.

"We are thrilled to have Jonathan and Patrick join our coaching staff," Plourde said. "They bring great passion, energy, and knowledge to our program. On a personal level, I couldn't be happier to have two alumni joining our staff!"

Skidmore will return to a full schedule in 2022 beginning in early March.
