Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Skidmore moves on to semis with 1-0 triumph at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Isaac Myran scored, the Thoroughbred defense came up big, and Bobby Stratts stood tall in goal as the Skidmore College men's soccer team earned its place in the Liberty League Semifinals with a 1-0 win at RIT to open the playoffs on Tuesday.

Skidmore will play second-seeded Ithaca on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at host RPI. The Engineers and St. Lawrence will battle in the first semifinal matchup at 11 a.m.

Myran scored 2:35 into the second half, when Dan Cornicello inserted a ball into a crowded box shortly after a Skidmore free kick. The low liner from the left side of Skidmore's attacking end skipped right to Myran, who drilled it into the back of the net for his third goal of the year.

The Thoroughbred defense stood firm the rest of the way, withstanding seven RIT shots (four on goal), four yellow cards, and three corner kicks. Stratts stopped all five shots on goal that he saw in the contest, and cleanly handled several corner kicks and crosses that flew into danger.

Stratts stonewalled two 84th-minute Tiger shots, the strongest flurry for RIT in the comeback bid, before the Thoroughbreds were able to run out the rest of the clock. RIT also had an opportunity for the equalizer in the 70thminute, but Josh Price's shot sailed over the crossbar.

RIT had an 11-7 edge in the shot department while getting three corner kicks, all in the second half, to Skidmore's one.

In addition to his game-winning goal, Myran accounted for two of Skidmore's three shots on goal. The assist-getter, Cornicello, had the other.

Price led all players with four shots, including two on goal. Carlos Cardona also fired two attempts on goal. Jason Trapp made two saves for RIT.

Skidmore heads into the semifinal match with a record of 9-5-3. RIT ends its season at 10-4-4.
