Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Skidmore earns thrilling 2-1 victory over RIT on Senior Day

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team scored twice in the first 12 minutes and held on to defeat RIT, 2-1, despite being down a player for the majority of the second half.

The loss is the first Liberty League defeat for the Tigers, who are 3-1-2 and 8-3-3 overall. Skidmore, with points in three conference games in a row (1-0-2), is 2-2-2 and sits two points back of Hobart and St. Lawrence. The Statesmen and the Saints are currently tied for fifth. Overall, the Thoroughbreds improve their record to 7-4-2.

Senior Isaac Myran got his second goal of the season just 3:04 into the game when Max Mian played a free kick that fell right on Myran's foot as he was racing into the goal area. Mian scored in the 12th minute on a direct kick from right outside the 18 to double the Thoroughbred lead.

The Tigers outshot the Thoroughbreds 9-5 in the opening 45 but could not score thanks in part to Bobbby Stratt's four first-half saves. Stratts posted six more in the second half to finish with 10, a season high. RIT finished with 21 shots while Skidmore had six with just one in the second half.

Alec Jackson scored for RIT in the 61st minute on a play set up by Jaden Longdon. Longdon made a move to get around a defender and slipped a pass across to the streaking Jackson who converted the tap-in.

Skidmore was assessed a red card with 26:11 left on the clock, forcing the Thoroughbreds to finish the game a player down. Stratts came up big with four saves down the stretch as Skidmore packed it in and ran out the clock. RIT appeared to have netted the equalizer with just over 30 seconds remaining, but the play was ruled offside.

Before the contest, Skidmore honored its five graduating seniors: Joey Park, Roman Toepler, Matteo Scarselli, Isaac Myran, and Bobby Stratts.

Skidmore has three games remaining with a trip to St. Lawrence on Saturday, Oct. 23 before its final home game on Wednesday, Oct. 27 versus Clarkson. The regular season comes to an end at Bard on Oct. 30.
