Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Skidmore battles Ithaca to 1-1 draw

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Max Mian scored and Bobby Stratts turned aside a penalty kick and had seven saves to lead the Skidmore College men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with Ithaca College on Friday.

The Thoroughbreds have points in consecutive games thanks to a pair of ties. Skidmore is 6-4-2 and 1-2-2 in the Liberty League. Ithaca is still in first place Liberty League thanks to a Rensselaer loss on Friday. The Bombers are 6-4-4 overall, but 4-0-1 in conference play.

Mian's first goal of the fall came in the 15th minute to give the Thoroughbreds the one-goal advantage. He collected a pass from Finn Weber in the box and despite the pair being outnumbered, his one-touch try on goal beat the Ithaca goalkeeper, Lee Folger.

Ithaca put in a few attempts for the equalizer before the break, but Stratts made a key save on Collin Shust and another shot steered wide. Stratts also saved Zackary Dewitt's penalty kick in the 59th minute, just over two minutes before the Bombers got the goal to even it up.

A long free kick from the Ithaca end of the field went off the head of a Thoroughbred defender and ricocheted to Jon Kyriakidis racing toward the goal. He lifted a shot that just made it over the defender back and floated into the net.

In overtime, Folger came up big twice on a penalty kick from Weber in the 103rd minute, followed immediately by a save on Rory Millar, who came in on the rebound.

All team statistics were nearly identical. Skidmore had 18 shots to Ithaca's 15, but both had four corner kicks and relied on their keepers to make seven saves.

Skidmore will honor its seniors on Saturday prior to its 2 p.m. matchup with RIT.
