AMHERST, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's tennis team stepped up to play Division I University of Buffalo Sunday afternoon, dropping a 7-0 decision.
The match provided a needed challenge for the Thoroughbreds (4-1) who beat William Smith 9-0 on Saturday. Buffalo is 7-1.
Risa Fukushige and
Maya Lal lost a tight 6-4 match at number one doubles. Fukushige lost 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 at number one singles.
"It was a very competitive match vs. a strong D1 team that might be a top 50 D1 team soon," said Skidmore coach
Curt Speerschneider. "We competed ell and were able to do a lot of what we've been working on, which is great against such high level players. It's just a matter of being a bit more consistent with the level we know we're capable of, which we're figuring out more every day. Very good development experience and thanks to UB for the opportunity."
Skidmore is at Wellesley on Feb. 29.
