Thoroughbreds slip on the road against RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team fell on the road against RIT, 64-51 in a Liberty League match-up Friday night.

The Thoroughbreds move to 6-18, 4-13 in Liberty League play, while the Tigers improve to 11-13, 9-8.

Clare Driscoll led in scoring for Skidmore with 15 points. Jessica Centore scored 14 points, alongside two steals and a block. Maddie Hastings had eight rebounds.

The Tigers were led by Kaleesha Joseph who finished with 21 points and nine rebounds.

The Thoroughbreds got off to a quick start in the first quarter, outscoring the Tigers 20-12. Driscoll hit a good three pointer in the first 31 seconds of the game to give Skidmore a 3-0 lead. Driscoll quickly extended the lead to 5-0 with a good layup off of a steal by Kate McCarney. The Tigers momentarily regained their composure before the Thoroughbreds went on a 10-0 scoring run to put Skidmore on top 16-8 with 3:20 left in the quarter. RIT was able to regain their rhythm going into the second quarter, taking the lead in the last three minutes of the second quarter 33-30 going into the break.

RIT came out hot out of the half, outscoring the Thoroughbreds 14-6. A good three-pointer by Centore put Skidmore within two points, 35-33, in the first minute of play, but the Tigers were able to bring the lead back up to eight points. The Thoroughbreds were not able to regain the lead in the fourth quarter, as RIT went on to secure the 64-51 victory.

The Thoroughbreds close out the season Saturday at William Smith at 2 p.m.
