Â
Skidmore came out strong in the first half making their first five of six shots from the field. Four different Thoroughbreds scored in the first three minutes of the game, including two made shots by Centore. The Thoroughbreds quickly gained a 21-12 lead over the Golden Knights at the end of the first quarter.
Â
The second quarter was quieter for both teams as both defenses made a stand. Neither team scored for the first two minutes of the quarter, until Clarkson broke the ice with a made layup. However, with 6:14 left,
Toyin Koleoso put up a good layup to send Skidmore on a 7-0 scoring run. The Thoroughbreds were able to maintain their lead throughout the rest of the quarter. Skidmore went into the break with a solid 10-point lead, 28-18. Centore scored nine of her 13 points and Berg pulled down nine rebounds in the half.
Â
Coming out of the locker room, McCarney started off hot with a made three-pointer on the first possession of the quarter. Driscoll followed up the basket with a made and one to continue a 10-0 scoring drive for the Thoroughbreds. With 7:30 left in the quarter the Golden Knights had two shot opportunities that turned into back-to-back blocks for Skidmore and finished with a good layup by Berg. Clarkson could not find the answers against the Thoroughbreds on either end of the court as they were outscored 20-14.
Â
Skidmore continued to dominate in the fourth. McCarney hit a jumper in the first seconds of the quarter to put the Thoroughbreds up 50-32. With 2:41 remaining Berg hit a jumper from Centore to widen the lead to 27 points. A free throw by
Caroline Merguerian with 1:00 remaining would help secure the 66-40 victory for the Thoroughbreds.
