SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Despite a gritty performance, the Skidmore College women's basketball team fell to St. Lawrence University 66-57 in overtime Friday evening at the Williamson Center.

The Thoroughbreds move 5-17 and 3-12 in Liberty League play, while the Saints improve to 16-6, 12-3.

Kate McCarney led Skidmore with 20 points.
Clare Driscoll contributed 14 points, three steals and a block.
Maddie Hastings (14) and
Lilly Berg (11) both dominated under the rim pulling down double-digit rebounds.

Katie Frederick navigated foul trouble to led the Saints with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Ava Mccann added 17 points, while Annabella Pugliese contributed eight rebounds.

It was a tight game from the start with 10 lead changes and 10 ties. St. Lawrence scored the last six points of the second quarter to take a 29-23 lead at the half.

Coming out of the break the Thoroughbreds went on a quick 6-0 scoring run, with Berg making two of her first three layups along with a steal against the Saints to bring Skidmore within two points, 31-29, with 7:01 remaining. The Thoroughbreds continued to close the gap as they brought the game within one point, 38-37, to close the third quarter.

The Thoroughbreds were able to regain their lead in the first minute of the fourth quarter off of a good jumper by
Jessica Centore, followed by a good layup by McCarney. The Saints tied 43-43 with 7:15 remaining in the game. The next five minutes were a back and forth defensive battle with the game tied at three different times. St. Lawrence was able to gain a three-point lead with 2:13 remaining, but a good jumper followed by a quicker made three-pointer by McCarney put the Thoroughbreds back up 51-49 with 41 seconds left in regulation.

Skidmore had a 52-50 lead with 21 seconds left, but Frederick scored on a layup to the game into overtime.

The first few minutes of the overtime period were once again a back and forth battle with two lead changes in the first two minutes. However, the Saints were able to go on a 9-0 scoring run off of five made free throws on the way to the 66-57 win. Â

The Thoroughbreds return home Saturday for the Big Green Scream against Clarkson at 2 p.m.
