SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—For the first time in more than 20 years, the Skidmore College hockey team took part in a scoreless tie with a 0-0 result against Hamilton College Saturday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.
It was the second tie in two nights for the teams after a 2-2 contest Friday night in Clinton.
Skidmore is 7-2-4 and unbeaten in seven games, while the Continentals are 3-5-2.
Hamilton had the game's best scoring chance when Sean Thomson had a clear breakaway from his own blue line late in the second period. Thoroughbred goalie
Brandon Kasel calmly came out to make the save and end the threat.
The Continentals had a 2-on-1 off a turnover with 5:30 to play, but Kasel came up big again.
The Thoroughbreds had a decent opportunity 26 seconds into overtime with consecutive shots by
Avery Steele and
Matt Muzyka on Hamilton goalie Chris Browne. Browne made a solid save on the first shot and a quick reaction stop on the rebound attempt.
Skidmore out shot Hamilton 36-30. Kasel had 30 saves for his second shutout of the season. Browne, in his first start of the season, stopped 36 shots.
The Thoroughbreds return to New England Hockey Conference play at home Jan. 10 against UMASS Boston at 7 p.m.
