Skidmore, Stockton battle to a scoreless tie

Skidmore and Stockton share Skidmore Alumni Invitational crown

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team and Stockton fought to a scoreless tie in the championship contest of the Skidmore Alumni Invitational, held at Wachenheim Field Sunday afternoon.

Both teams will share the Invitational victory. Skidmore remains unbeaten at 3-0-1, while Stockton improves to 3-1-1.

Each team had plenty of chances to score, despite the score line. In the 26th minute, a header by Stockton's James McCombs was blocked at the goal line by junior forward Stanley Langyintuo. In the 67th minute, it was a Stockton defender who blocked a sure goal by junior midfielder Max Moran.

Skidmore had another chance to win early in the overtime session. In the 92nd minute, a well-placed cross from junior defender Josh Ridenhour on the right side found senior midfielder David Braman. He fed senior forward Alex Ricci in front of net, but the shot went over the net.

Senior goalkeeper Sebastian Bosch was brilliant in net, making six saves to keep the Stockton offense at bay. His counterpart, Stockton's Dino Gromitsaris, didn't make a save, thanks to eight blocked shots by the Osprey defense.

Stockton held slight advantages in shots (15-12) and corner kicks (4-3).

In the consolation game, Caleb Asamoah tallied two goals and Steven Rojas added three assists, as Oswego ran away from St. John Fisher by a 7-1 score.

Skidmore will wrap up the home stand with a Wednesday visit from No. 14 Ramapo, at 4 p.m.
