SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – In a game that had its share of twists and turns, the Skidmore College men's soccer team fought Ramapo to a 1-1 tie, in non-conference action at Wachenheim Field on a hot Wednesday afternoon.
Skidmore remains undefeated on the season at 3-0-2. Ramapo also remained undefeated at 2-0-2.
Stanley Langyintuo tallied Skidmore's lone goal in the 64
th minute, the sixth of the season. He also led the team with three shots on goal.
Sebastian Bosch shook off the early goal and was solid late, making nine saves to keep the Ramapo offense at bay.
Justin Charkowski scored for Ramapo, with Joseph Fala assisting. Fala led the team with five shots on goal. Noah Beverin made seven saves in net for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo got started with its goal in the 25
th minute. On a breakaway, Fala fed Charkowski with a well-placed thorough ball that skipped between two Skidmore defenders. Charkowski fired a low ball that just slid underneath the diving Bosch.
Skidmore, undaunted, nearly equalized 40 seconds later. A deft pass by Langyintuo at the top of the box found
David Braman just inside the penalty box, as he fired a shot that hit the left post.
Skidmore had another opportunity in the 60
th minute. Langyintuo picked off a Ramapo feed, darting up the right side. Once on the right edge of the box, Langyintuo lifted a cross that evaded a Ramapo defender, finding
Finn Weber at the top, 18 yards out. A surprised Weber was unable to control the feed, as it hit his hip and rolled out of play.
The Thoroughbreds finally knotted the game at one in the 65
th minute. Off a free kick opportunity outside the box, Langyintuo tried to feed a cutting
Kyle Barrett on the right side. The pass was deflected, but right to Langyintuo, who tried to then look to goal. He lifted a low, curling shot that beat a diving Ramapo goalie to his right.
Ramapo had a chance to take the lead in the 75
th minute. After Bosch cleared a corner kick opportunity, the ball floated back to Ramapo, as a defender launched a long pass into the box and the waiting head of the 6-7 Fala. Fala's header floated high, just above the net. A few minutes later, Bosch saved a certain goal as he tipped away a Bashkim Saiti header.
The Thoroughbreds nearly pulled off the win in the final seconds of regulation. A defensive clearance by the Thoroughbred defense triggered a breakaway. Barrett found Myran with a long thorough ball as he just had just the keeper to beat. Myran took an early shot that was deflected by a charging Beverin outside of the box. Myran got the ball back and tried to shoot in an open net, but the shot was deflected by the defender, and cleared by Ronald Kestelboym at the goal line.
Off a free kick in the 101st minute, Barrett's feed landed perfectly in the waiting feet of Braman. Braman's chance in front of the net hit the crossbar, and was deflected away by the Ramapo defense. Both teams had a chance to score in the final minute, but the defense held as the teams fought to a tie.
Both teams tallied 22 shots. Ramapo edged Skidmore 10-8 in shots on target. Skidmore held the edge in corner kicks, 8-6.
Skidmore will hit the road for their next matchup, traveling north to take on Plattsburgh State at 6 p.m.
