SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Skidmore College men's soccer team dropped its Liberty League opener to Union, 3-2 at College Park Field Friday night.
Skidmore drops its first game of the season, falling to 4-1-2. Union remains unbeaten at 8-0.
It was a back-and-forth game between two of the Liberty League's last unbeaten squads. Union struck first, scoring in the 33rd minute. Union's Jeremy Cohn received a feed from Salvador Lopez Jr., lacing a shot down the middle in a scrum in front of net, beating Skidmore keeper
Sebastian Bosch.
Undeterred, Skidmore scored right after, tying things up in the 38th minute.
Ted Roach received a feed from
Stanley Langyintuo off a corner kick, knocking a shot past Union keeper Trevor Krupp. Three minutes later, Weber Finn took advantage, giving Skidmore a 2-1 lead right before halftime.
The Dutchmen tied the game at two in the 60th minute. Lopez Jr., the Liberty League's leading scorer, fed Poom Mera on the right side, as Mera slotted his shot in the lower left corner. Union took the lead with an Evan Farr goal in the 74th minute.
The Thoroughbreds had a few chances to tie it late. A broken play found
Isaac Myran one-on-one with the goalie, but his shot lifted just high of net in the 83rd minute. In the 88th minute, a cross from
Kyle Barrett found Weber on the left side. Weber low shot on the right side was tipped away and corralled by the Union keeper.
Skidmore held a 24-12 shots advantage. The Thoroughbreds also earned a 5-3 corner kick advantage.
Bosch made three saves in the effort. His counterpart, Krupp, made five saves in the victory.
Skidmore returns to action next week, hosting Hobart at Wachenheim Field Saturday at 3 p.m.
