NEW PALTZ, N.Y.—The Skidmore College field hockey team battled back from a 3-1 deficit only to lose 4-3 in overtime to New Paltz in a non-league road game Wednesday.
The Thoroughbreds are 2-4, while Hawks improve to 4-3.
Down 2-0 less than six minutes in, Skidmore regrouped behind a
Carrie Hughes goal from
Sarah Winters at 16:46.
New Paltz extended its lead to 3-1 in the third quarter, but it Hughes scored in the final minute of the third from
Carly Shea to cut it to 3-2.
Gabrielle Vaccaro forced overtime with her third goal of the season at with less than three minutes to play in regulation.
After a scoreless first overtime, the Hawks managed the game-winner in the 71
st minute.
New Paltz outshot Skidmore 25-16 and had a 15-9 corner advantage.
Jess Gaetgens had a career-high 17 saves for the Thoroughbreds.
Skidmore is home Saturday at 10 a.m. with a rescheduled game against Thomas College.
