Langyintuo powers Skidmore in record-setting fashion

Thoroughbreds defeat Keuka 4-1 in season opener; Langyintuo sets Skidmore record with four goals

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Junior forward Stanley Langyintuo made quick work of Keuka, scoring a Skidmore-record four goals, powering men's soccer to a 4-1 victory over the Wolves in the 2019 season opener at Wachenheim Field Friday evening.

Skidmore (1-0) wins its season opener for the second time in three seasons. Keuka (0-1) drops its season opener for the third straight year.

Langyintuo sets a new record, breaking the previous mark of three that was tied on six different occasions. The last Thoroughbred to tally a hat trick was Brock Bakewell in 2013.

Langyintuo tallied his hat-trick in 23:39.

He opened up the scoring in the 11th minute, taking a header off a Josh Ridenhour throw-in. 37 seconds later, Ridenhour and Langyintuo linked up again for a Skidmore goal. This time, Ridenhour placed a long pass from midfield along the sideline to Langyintuo, who chipped charging Keuka keeper Stephen Cowulich just inside the box for the easy goal. The third goal came 12 minutes after, as the junior tapped in a header by Ted Roach.

A heady play by Langyintuo in the 58th minute contributed to the record-breaking goal. A Ridenhour throw-in eventually found Finn Weber, who volleyed the attempt towards a crowded space in goal. Langyintuo redirected the shot, surprising the Keuka keeper as it trickled into the net.

Keuka found its lone goal in the 88th minute. A deflected pass off the corner kick found Chris Millard, as he knocked home the easy chance in front of net.

Skidmore dominated the shot total by a 17-8 margin. Sebastian Bosch needed just one save for the victory. Cowulich was busy in net, tallying six saves in 45 minutes of action. Ryan Mavretish and Ryan Velte would finish the second half for Keuka.

The Thoroughbreds will host Lasell at Wachenheim Field Saturday afternoon (4:30 p.m.) Lasell comes to Skidmore after a 6-1 loss to Union in the season opener. Keuka will play Union in Schenectady, also beginning at 4:30 p.m.
