No. 13 Skidmore falls at No. 18 Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team saw its three-game winning streak end to Brandeis, in a 6-3 score at the Rieger Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.

Skidmore, ranked 13th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) polls, falls to 9-4. Brandeis, ranked 18th, improves to 9-4.

Down two games to nil in doubles play, Skidmore avoided the sweep with a gutsy performance by sophomore Risa Fukushige and junior Renee Karchere-Sun. Tied at seven in first doubles to Lauren Bertsch and Olivia Leavitt, the Skidmore duo won 7-4 in the tie break, earning the 8-7 win.

Early in singles, Skidmore tied the match at two, after a 6-3, 6-4 victory by rookie Lily Feldman over Bertsch at No. 4. After Brandeis took the lead with its victory at No. 2, Fukushige tied things up again for Skidmore with her victory over Diana Dehterevich at the top spot, 6-3, 6-2. The Judges eventually took the match, winning the last three points at six, five, and three.

Skidmore will look to bounce back next Saturday, hosting third ranked Amherst at the Wenger Tennis Courts at noon.
