No. 19 Skidmore wins fourth straight, defeating No. 38 Hobart 7-2

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team showed no signs of rust, keeping its win streak intact after a 7-2 victory over No. 36 Hobart at the Wenger Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.

Skidmore, ranked 19th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national polls, improves to 10-4 with their fourth straight win. The Thoroughbreds also remain perfect in Liberty League matches at 6-0, improving its streak to 35 in the regular season. Hobart falls to 8-4 overall, dropping its first league match of the season (4-1).

Skidmore got off on the right foot with a doubles sweep. At the top spot, JT Wynne and Noah Williamson pulled off the upset, defeating eighth-ranked Alan Dubrovsky and Walker Anderson, 8-6. Jason Keye and Jack McClaren also picked up an 8-6 win, getting past Colin Molloy and Jack Ledford at No. 3. Travis Leaf and Suraj Mahtani had an easier time at No. 2, defeating Thomas Shung and Jonathan Atwater 8-2.

Moving on to singles, Anderson and Atwater got wins for Hobart at three and two, respectively, but Skidmore handled its business, winning four out of the six matches to take the game. Wynne picked up another upset, as the All-American defeated fifth-ranked Dubrovsky in a three-set thriller, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. He improves to 16-6 overall, having defeated three ranked opponents in the last four matches. At No. 4, Mahtani took down Ledford in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Conor Biernat outlasted Shung in the first set of his match at No. 5, eventually winning by a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 score. Yuqi Wang, a late add to the lineup, paid dividends for the Thoroughbreds with his victory at No. 6 against Joe Mallon, 6-3, 7-5.

With the postseason fast approaching, Skidmore turns to the homestretch of the regular season, with four consecutive matches at home. Up next for the Thoroughbreds is No. 28 Stevens on Saturday at 1 p.m.
