Risa Fukushige took down the top-ranked player in the region, Heather Boehm in straight sets at the top spot, 7-5, 6-4. Fukushige handed Boehm her first loss of the season.
"Not a bad way to finish the regular season," said head coach
Curt Speerschneider. "There's a reason Middlebury is the top team in the country right now, but we competed well against them. Despite the loss, it was a good final lesson of the regular season learning process. Now we're geared up for the post season knowing what the top looks like and knowing what we have to do to get there. It's been an up and down road, but the team has been working hard to be at their best in the post season, which is now. It was great to see Risa compete that well against the top player in the region and probably one of the top five players in the country. Huge win for her and I think she achieved another level today. She's been so solid for us since September, so it's great to see her notch this good win going into the post season."
The Thoroughbreds will await the William Smith/Ithaca winner in Ithaca for the Liberty League Semifinal on Saturday, May 4
th. Skidmore has won the last eight Liberty League Championships and are winners of 19 league tournament matches in a row.
