VERONA, N.Y.—The Skidmore College golf team shot an opening round 313 in the Liberty League Golf Championships being played at the par-72 Kaluhyat Course at the Turning Stone Resort.

New York University leads the 54-hole event with 306. Clarkson and RPI are tied for second with 309. Rochester (318), St. Lawrence (319), and Hobart (322) round out the field.

The winner gets the league's NCAA automatic qualifier.

Gabriel Rossi is Skidmore's first round leader. He's tied for third with a two-over 74. He had four of the team's nine first-round birdies.

Walker Stroud is tied for 15^th with 79, one stroke in front of teammates Damian Hammond and Harry Grosso at 80. Jacob Hempel rounds out the team's scoring with 86.

Play continues Saturday morning with the second round, followed by Sunday's final 18.
