Thoroughbreds rally for walk-off 8-7 win over Williams

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— Sean Lang had a one-out two-strike single to secure an 8-7 win over Williams College Tuesday evening at Castle Diamond.

The Thoroughbreds have won nine straight for a 16-9 record. The Ephs are 16-6.

Skidmore entered the bottom of the ninth down 7-6. Will Potter led off with a walk and moved second on Pat Geiger's single to left.

Following a failed sacrifice attempt, Matt Chipkin took an 0-2 pitch down the right field line to drive in Potter for a 7-7 tie. Geiger was held up at third.

Jake Hardy reached on an infield error that loaded the bases for Lang. Lang took a 2-2 pitch to left, plating Geiger with the winner.

After giving up three runs in the first inning, Skidmore sent 12 batters to the plate in its half of the inning, scoring six runs. Six different players had single RBI in the inning.

Williams pieced together a single run in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth for a 7-6 lead. It took until the ninth for the Thoroughbreds to get back on the board.

Geiger went 2-5 with two runs and his record-setting 14th double of the season. Chipkin was 2-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

Skidmore used eight pitchers with Jonathan Kaiser (2-1) getting the win with a perfect ninth inning with two strike outs and a ground out.
