SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The 17
th-ranked Skidmore College women's tennis team remained untouched in Liberty League action this season, with a 9-0 victory against Ithaca at the Wenger Tennis Courts Sunday morning.
Skidmore improves to 10-5 overall and a perfect 7-0 in league matches. The Thoroughbreds have not allowed a league point thus far, outscoring their opponents by a 63-0 margin. Ithaca falls to 2-11 overall and 2-5 in league matches.
The Thoroughbreds swept doubles in dominating fashion. At No. 2,
Lily Feldman and
Dea Koiava picked up an 8-1 victory against Shannon Wolfe and Sara Steinberg.
Jessica Ampel and
Audrey SooHoo also picked up an 8-1 win, defeating Brianna Ruback and Alexandra Dyszewski at No. 3. The ranked pair of
Risa Fukushige and
Renee Karchere-Sun finished the sweep with an 8-2 victory over Kathrun Shaffer and Caroline Dunn.
Moving to singles, the bottom half of the lineup was near perfect. Feldman, SooHoo, and
Sofia Carlsson each picked up 6-1, 6-0 wins at Nos. 4, 5, and 6. At No. 2, Koiava defeated Dunn by a 6-0, 6-2 margin. Tenth-ranked Fukushige put away Ruback in the second set, a 6-3, 6-0 win. Karchere-Sun finished the sweep with a 6-3, 601 win at No. 3.
Skidmore can clinch another regular season title and the number one seed in the Liberty League Tournament in its league finale, hosting Vassar on Saturday at 1 p.m.
