Long ball and timely pitching help Thoroughbreds split

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Rookie Hannah Davis tossed her second shutout of the season to lead the Skidmore College softball team to a 5-0 win in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader against Castleton University. The Spartans won game one 9-4. The games were played at Wagner Park with Castleton as the home team.

The Thoroughbreds are 8-9, while the Spartans sit at 6-9.
 
GAME 1
Castleton scored seven runs on four hits to erase a 2-0 Skidmore lead in the fifth inning. Hannah Paolucci was 2-3 with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. She battled through a 10-pitch at bat, before sending the ball deep over the center field fence. Megan White went 2-4 with a double and run scored. Emily Popp (3-4) was tagged with the loss, she went 4.1 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) with a walk and five strikeouts. Nicole Rosner finished, giving up two unearned runs on one hit.

GAME 2
Paolucci went long again for her second home run of the day, a solo shot to left center in the second inning. She finished the game 2-3 with a run and two RBI.  Kaitlyn Judd drilled her first collegiate home run in the seventh for two runs. She was 2-2 with a run and three RBI.
Davis (3-3) only faced five batters over the minimum, with three hits, a walk and four strikeouts.

NEXT UP:
Skidmore continues its 10-game home stand on Sunday with a two against Southern Vermont. First game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
