Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Thoroughbreds dust RIT 81-59 to remain in first

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's basketball team moved closer to the Liberty League regular season title with a 81-59 road win over RIT Saturday evening in Rochester.

The Thoroughbreds are 15-7 overall and 13-3 in the Liberty League. The Tigers fall to 5-17 and 2-13.

The win keeps Skidmore tied with St. Lawrence for first place. The league winner earns a first round bye and will host the conference final four. The
Thoroughbreds close out the regular season with Clarkson on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. and the Saints on Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. in the Big Green Scream and Senior Day.

Noah Meren continued to carve up Liberty defenses, leading six Skidmore players in double figures with 19 points, five assists, and two steals.  Chase Ta (14), Greg Skoric (12), Ryan Murunge (11), Edvinas Rupkus (10), and Jack Byrne (12) were all scored in double figures.

Jaymee Rosser was the lone Tiger in double figures with 10 points.

Skidmore scored a season-high 30 points off 17 RIT turnovers.

Rosser hit a 3-pointer with 13:26 left in the first half to give the Tigers their biggest lead of the game 16-11. The Thoroughbred responded with a 28-6 run to open a 39-22 lead with 4:58 to play in the half. Rupkus started the run with a deep three. Murunge hit a jumper and Meren slammed one home and the Thoroughbreds were off.

RIT never got closer than 13 the rest of the way, with Skidmore leading by as many as 25 points.

"Nice weekend for our team," said Skidmore coach Joe Burke. "I thought we played together and had great balance all weekend on a tough road trip.

"It's the time of the year where you have to defend and get contributions from multiple players and we did that last night and tonight."

Skidmore shot a lofty 51.7% from the floor, going 30-58.
