Thoroughbreds Home for Final Playoff Prep

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College hockey wraps the regular season at home this weekend against Suffolk University on Friday at 7 p.m. and Johnson & Wales University on Saturday at 4 p.m. There is a free bus from Case Center at 6:30 Friday and 3:30 Saturday.
 
Friday's game will be Mental Health Awareness Night to support the Do it For Daron Foundation. The game will feature a 3rd Jersey Auction, Merchandise Sale, Barrelhouse Score-O and a 50/50. Donations will be accepted at the door.
 
DIFD is about inspiring conversations, raising awareness, and transforming youth mental health.
 
Skidmore will be looking to improve its seeding for the upcoming NEHC tournament. The Thoroughbreds (11-9-3, 7-6-3 NEHC) with 17 points. Three behind fifth place Hobart and four back of New England College.
 
Suffolk (8-14, 5-11) is in seventh with 10 points. Johnson & Wales (4-16-3, 2-12-2) is tied for ninth. The top eight teams make the tournament.
 
Skidmore beat Suffolk 4-3 on Dec. 8 and Johnson & Wales 7-3 on Dec. 7.
 
Matt Muzyka (9 goals, 10 assists, 19 points) and Brandon Borges (6-12—18) top the team in scoring. Rookies Austin Rook (6-10—16) and Avert Steele (5-10—15) along with senior Corey Morgan (3-11—14) round out the top five.
 
Brandon Kasel is 8-7-1 in net with a 2.76 goals against average and .914 save percentage. Brian Kowalski is 3-2-2 after 35 saves last time out in a 1-1 tie with Babson. He has a 3.18 GAA and .906 sv%.
 
Suffolk snapped a five-game losing streak in its last game with a 4-1 win over Castleton. Jack Kelly (12-11—23) and Mikail Bryan (8-15—23) lead the Rams in scoring. Michael Levine is played in 20 games with a 6-12 record, 3.41 GAA, and .898 sv%.
 
Johnson & Wales has lost four straight and is 1-1-11 over its last 13 games. Connor Bechtel (9-9—18) is the team's top scorer. Mike Rockwell has a 2-12-3 record to go along with a 4.09 GAA and .891 sv% in 17 starts. Saratoga native Tyler Ellor is 2-2 with a 2.54 GAA and .932 sv% in six games.
 
The playoff pairings will be announced Sunday, with the quarterfinals on Feb. 16, semifinals Feb. 23 and championship on March 2.
