Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Thoroughbred streak ends at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team could not keep up with a hot shooting performance by Ithaca, as the hosts snap Skidmore's four-game winning streak with a 94-62 victory in Liberty League action at Ben Light Gymnasium Friday evening.

Skidmore (12-7, 10-3 Liberty League) drops to second place in the league standings, a half-game behind St. Lawrence. Ithaca (10-9, 6-6) wins its second straight game and pulls into fifth place in the league standings.

Skidmore held an early 6-3 lead after a Skoric jumper, but the Ithaca floodgates opened from there. The Bombers shot 60 percent (18-for-30) from the field and an incredible 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from beyond the arc in the first half to take a 22-point, 55-33 lead into halftime.

Skidmore shot 52 percent (13-for-25) from the field in the second half, but could not keep up with the Ithaca offense, as the Bombers stretched their lead to as high as 36 points. Skidmore would keep Ithaca off the board over the final 3:07 of the game, as Skidmore got buckets from Charlie Williams and Pat Gallagher to wrap up the scoring.

Noah Meren led Skidmore with 13 points, three assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Edvinas Rupkus added 12 points and two blocked shots. Chase Ta added 11 points.

Peter Ezema led all scorers with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Ithaca had five scorers with double digit scoring totals.

"All the credit goes to Ithaca," said head coach Joe Burke. "They played extremely well and shot the heck out of the ball."

"We knew this would be a tough road trip, so we have no time to hang our head. This conference is an 18-game season where the schedule is grueling night in and night out and unfortunately we beat the heck out of each other.  We have to turn the page and regroup for a Bard team that has some of the best talent in the league."

The Thoroughbreds will make the trip to Bard tomorrow at 4 p.m. Ithaca will host RPI tomorrow, also at 4 p.m.
