Wasps hold off charging Thoroughbreds for 74-67 win

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team cut a 23-point second-half deficit to four points, but Emory & Henry held on for a 74-67 win in the second round of the St. Petersburg Classic at Ekerd College.
 
The Thoroughbreds fall to 3-6, while the Wasps improve to 3-6.
 
Rookies Tautvydas Kupstas and Riley Greene once led Skidmore in scoring. Kupstas finished with 19 points while Greene added 14. Pat Gallagher led the team on the boards with eight rebounds alongside 13 points.
 
The Wasps were led by Kevin Grau Rodriguez who tallied 19 points. He was one of four Wasps who scored double digits.
 
Emory & Henry extended a 45-32 halftime lead to 23 points, 58-35 with just over 10 minutes to play. Skidmore started the comeback with an 8-0 scoring run that began with a Greg Skoric three pointer. A three-point from Kupstas cut it to 71-67 with :17 seconds to play, but the Wasps hit three of four free throws to season the win in the final seconds.
 
The Thoroughbreds return to the Williamson Center on Jan. 4 to face Vermont Technical College at 4 p.m.
