SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— The Skidmore College men's hockey team beat Brockport 5-2 to advance to the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational championship game set for Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.
Tufts knocked off Buffalo State 2-1 in the other semifinal. Buffalo and Brockport play in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
The Thoroughbreds are 5-2-1, while the Golden Eagles drop to 5-4.
Brockport grabbed the first lead on Hunter Laslo's tip-in at 5:40 of the first from Danny Rock and Chris Pollini. Skidmore quickly regained the lead on a pair of goals nine seconds apart.
Tim Allen's shot from was tipped by
Owen Campbell past Golden Eagle goalie Sean Lincoln at 8:43.
Austin Rook had the second assist. Matt Muyzka quickly made it 2-1 with his fourth goal of the season at 8:54 from
Avery Steele.
Austin Rook scored the eventual game winner at 17:40 when he scored off a
John Litscher faceoff win. Poirier had the other assist.
Ryan Romeo scored the lone goal of the second period to cut the lead to 2-1 when he connected on a rebound. Jordan Renaud and Doc Gentzler assisted.
Wolf tallied a short-handed insurance goal from Muyzka at 15:01 of the third and
Mike Gelatt had the empty netter from Muzyka and
Avery Steele at 19:44 for the 5-2 final.
Brockport out shot Skidmore 33-28.
Brandon Kasel had 31 saves, including 13 to keep the Thoroughbreds in front in the third period. Lincoln finished with 23 saves for the Golden Eagles.
Tufts held off a determined Buffalo State team for its first win of the season. The Jumbos (1-5) had lost three straight 2-1 decisions before being on the right end of a 2-1 score against Buffalo State (4-3).
First period goals by Anthony Farinacci (00:54) and Edward Hannon (9:29) held up for Tufts. Jumbo goalie Josh Sarlo had 33 saves, the same number as Brockport's Emil Norman.
