ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team seized the opportunity when Houghton College ran into shooting difficulties in the third quarter, earning the Thoroughbreds their first win of the season Saturday afternoon. The 54-47 victory place the Thoroughbreds in third at the Chuck Resler Invitational in Rochester.

The Thoroughbreds move to 1-2 on the season while the Highlanders drop to 0-4.

Jessica Centore and
Clare Driscoll led the Thoroughbreds in scoring with 13 points apiece. Driscoll also pulled down eight rebounds, while
Toyin Koleoso led the team with 10 rebounds.
Mary Kate Palleschi followed close behind, adding 10 points to the scoreboard.

Ernie Taylor posted a double-double for the Highlanders with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Brooke Lewandowski had 11 points and six boards as well.

Houghton held a slim 13-11 lead through one quarter. Skidmore scored 16 points in the second period and moved in front 27-24. Houghton struggled from the floor in the third quarter, scoring only four points as Skidmore moved further ahead, 39-28. In the fourth period, Houghton sank 8 of 13 from the floor to shrink the deficit, but the Thoroughbreds held on to secure the 54-47 victory.

Driscoll was named to the All-Tournament team after her impressive two-day performance in the paint for the Thoroughbreds.

Skidmore returns home next Saturday at 2 p.m. to face Middlebury College at the Williamson Sports Center.
