SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to four with a 2-2 tie at home against Castleton University in New England Hockey Conference action at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.

The Thoroughbreds are off to a 3-0-1 (2-0-1) start to the season. The Spartans are 1-2-1 (1-1-1).

With time running out in the first period,
Matt Muzyka floated one into the top right corner for his third goal of the season at 19:49 from Matt Rutigliano and
Matt Wolf.

Austin Rook extended the lead to 2-0 at 1:55 of the second period from Wolf and Muzyka. Castleton broke through at 6:27, catching Skidmore on a change. Alex Maunula and Nick Gravina had a two-on-one with Maunula finishing the rush with his second goal of the season.

After coming up empty on its first four and the game's first four power plays, Castleton tied it on the fifth power play. Anton Tarvainen scored with assists to Glenn Wiswell and Kyle Kazeroid at 1:20 of the third.

Neither team could break through for a third goal as both goalies came up big to preserve the tie.

Skidmore drew a power play at 19:19 of the third that carried over into the overtime. The Thoroughbreds had several quality chances, but Castleton goalie Kyle Alaverdy withstood the attack.

The Thoroughbreds outshot the Spartans 40-34, including 4-1 in overtime.
Brandon Kasel had 32 saves, including 11 in the third period. Alaverdy finished with 38 saves.

Skidmore continues the home weekend on Saturday against top ranked Norwich University at 4 p.m.
