Thoroughbreds dismiss Vassar, 3-1

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Melissa Haas scored her first goal of the season from 18 yards out in the 85th minute to secure the Skidmore College women's soccer team's 3-1 victory in their Homecoming game against Vassar College.

With the win, the Thoroughbreds move to 6-2-2, while the Brewers drop to 5-5-1.

Skidmore struck first as Emily Vinick scored her 5th goal of the season from six yards out off a Yasmine Boukari cross. Vassar tied it up in the 32nd minute as Savannah Cutler picked up a loose ball in the box and shot it into the lower right corner. Within two minutes, Yasmine Boukari drilled in a shot from 19 yards out directly to the upper left corner off of a Vassar foul outside of the box.

The Thoroughbreds went on to shut out the Brewers in the second half.

After a near miss by the Brewers in the 78th minute, Haas grabbed a long clear from her defenders and floated her first goal of the season past keeper Fiona Walsh to seal the win for the Thoroughbreds at 85:01.

Vassar led the game 20-12 in shots and 11-4 in shots on goal, but thanks to 10 saves by keeper Ava Keller the Thoroughbreds kept their lead.

Ava Keller finished the day with 5 saves in the first half and 5 saves in the second half, and multiple diving saves.

Skidmore returns to Liberty League play next Saturday with a 2pm match at RPI.
