SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—There hasn't been a Liberty League field hockey tournament without Skidmore College and this year will be no different after the Thoroughbreds beat Union 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds (10-6, 5-0 Liberty) have won four straight and seven of eight. It was Skidmore's 27
th straight win over the Dutchwomen (5-8, 1-4).
The team's magic number to clinch first place and all-important home field for the playoffs is one with two games to play.
Skidmore scored first when
Gabrielle Vaccaro put back a rebound for her seventh goal of the season at 5:32. Union tied it in the second quarter on
Sydney Walters' first goal of the season at 21:47.
Morgan Sickels tallied the game-winner off a corner from
Mariah Redler at 41:58.
The Thoroughbreds led in shots (15-14) and corners (15-8).
Maddy Carre remained perfect in net with six saves to up her record to 6-0.
Skidmore will look to claim the Liberty League regular season title on Oct. 25 in a 4 p.m. game at Rensselaer.
