SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— The Skidmore College and Saratoga High School hockey teams have once again partnered for Hockey Night in 'Toga that will be held Friday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rinks.
Skidmore will host #7/9 and New England Hockey Conference leader UMASS Boston at 7 p.m. in the Weibel Ave. Rink, while Saratoga takes on Shaker/Colonie in the Vernon Arena at 6 p.m. There is no admission charge for the Skidmore game and a minimal charge for the high school contest.
Both teams will be collecting canned goods to support the Wilton Food Pantry. Skidmore has a limited amount of 40
th Anniversary Pint Glasses for food donors. The pantry is in desperate need of canned fruit, past, 64oz juice in plastic bottles, toilet paper and tissues.
Free buses shuttle buses for the Thoroughbred game will depart Case Center at 6:30 p.m. and return immediately after the game.
Friday's game marks the opening of a four-game homestand for the Thoroughbreds to close out the regular season. Skidmore will face #12/13 Babson College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Thoroughbreds are 11-8-2 overall and 7-5-2 in the NEHC. The team has clinched a playoff berth and sits in sixth place with 16 points, only three points out of third place.
UMASS Boston (16-5, 12-2 NEHC) is first with 24 points. Two points in front of Babson (15-4-2, 10-2-2).
Matt Muzyka (9 goals, 9 assists, 18 points) and
Brandon Borges (6-12—18) lead Skidmore in scoring. Borges is tied for second in NEHC power-play points per game with .53. Rookies
Avery Steele (5-10—15) and
Austin Rook (5-10—15) are next.
Avery Steele is tied for third in NEHC power-play goals with four. His brother
Will Steele is tied for first in game winning goals with four.
Brandon Kasel is 8-6-1 with a 2.67 goals against average and .916 save percentage.
UMASS Boston features on of the league's top scorers in Nolan Redler (10-15—25). Beacon goalie Baily MacBurnie leads the NEHC in GAA (1.59) and save% (.934). UMB beat Skidmore 6-3 on Dec. 1.
Babson is 8-2-1 over its last 11 games. The Beavers needed overtime to beat the Thoroughbreds in their first meeting, 4-3 on Nov. 30 to start the 11 game run.
Nick Rosa (12-13—25) and Mike Egan (11-13—24) are among the league's top scorers for an offense that has four players over 20 points and is averaging 3.90 goals per game, second in the conference. Babson splits senior goalies. Bryan Botcher has a 1.97 GAA and .927 sv%, while Matt Pompa carries a 2.98 GAA and .911 sv%.
