Â
After a scoreless first half, Skidmore pressured Elms into several sloppy plays in the box early in the second stanza.
Â
The Blazers scrambled to keep the Thoroughbreds off the board until a long throw into the box resulted in a clear hand ball.
Shoyo Yanagihara calmly converted the penalty for a 1-0 lead at 55:52.
Â
Skidmore's second goal got its start when
Isaac Myran battled a defender for 25 yards before being taken down inside the box for a second penalty. This time
Kyle Barrett placed the ball into the top of the net, just over the outstretched hands of Elms keeper Julian Brosi for a 2-0 lead at 66:42.
Â
The Blazers made it interesting, getting on the board at 83:34 on a scramble off a rebound in front of the net. John Goebel came up with the ball to score his first of the season.
Â
The Thoroughbreds maintained their composure for the final six minutes to preserve the win.
Â
Skidmore had a 27-7 shot advantage and had 14 corners, the most corners since a 2015 game vs. MCLA.Â
Â
Sebastian Bosch had four saves for the Thoroughbreds, while Brosi finished with 13 saves, including 10 in the second half.
