SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team put up a solid effort on defense but were unable to get the game-winning score, playing Plattsburgh to a 0-0 draw at Wachenheim Field Tuesday evening.
Skidmore's record stands at 2-1-2, while Plattsburgh's record is 1-3-2.
Plattsburgh dominated possession early on, but were unable to get any quality looks at goal. Things began to open up for the Thoroughbreds near the end of the first half, getting its best chance at goal in the 40
th minute. Junior
David Braman stole the ball from a Plattsburgh midfielder and raced up the left side, sending a nice cross over to freshman
Isaac Myran, who sent a hard header towards goal, but bounced off the right post. Later in the 49
th minute, Myran had another chance at goal, but Plattsburgh goalie Ryan Wilson made a nice diving play on the low header to keep the ball from net.
Plattsburgh nearly got on the board a number of times, but the Skidmore defense made stellar plays to preserve the shutout. Skidmore junior goalie
Sebastian Bosch made a number of athletic saves, tipping away a header from an unmarked Connor Nembach in the 29
th minute, and stopping a Chris Robertson shot in the 85
th. Senior
Ben Poole also made a sliding play late in the second half, with Plattsburgh's Ankit Patel seemingly open for a breakaway opportunity.
Bosch made six saves to earn his second clean sheet of the season, while Skidmore blocked five Plattsburgh shots to help the junior goalie.
Plattsburgh outshot Skidmore 17-10, and held a 6-4 shots on goal advantage. Skidmore earned seven corner kicks to Plattsburgh's three. Two Thoroughbreds and two Cardinal players earned yellow cards.
The Thoroughbreds begin Liberty League play this Friday, as Union comes to Saratoga Springs for a 7 p.m. contest.
