STANDISH, Maine—The Skidmore College field hockey team fell short in its season opener, 3-2 to St. Joseph's College.
The Thoroughbreds will continue their Maine road trip Saturday with a 12 p.m. game at Thomas College.
Marissa Folts gave Skidmore an early 1-0 lead off a penalty corner from
Meaghan Lynch at 7:54.
The Monks scored twice in a 2:16 span to take a 2-1 lead into the half.
The lead moved to 3-1 at 65:23, but Skidmore's
Mariah Redler scored her first collegiate goal at the 70 minute mark from
Gabby Hyman for the 3-2 final.
St. Joe's had a 20-13 shot advantage, while the Thoroughbreds held a 12-11 edge in penalty corners.
Elizabeth Coughlin had seven saves in net for Skidmore.
