Thoroughbreds drop one-run games at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team lost a pair of one-run Liberty League games, 2-1 and 7-6 Saturday at Vassar College.

The Thoroughbreds are 9-10 overall and 4-6 in league play, while the Brewers are 8-6 and 5-1. The teams will complete the series at Skidmore on Sunday at 12 p.m.

In the first game, Spencer Anderson had a four-hitter for Skidmore, allowing two runs with five strikeouts and one walk over six innings.

The Thoroughbreds trailed 2-0 heading into the seventh. With runners on first and second and two outs, Nate Scheinman worked an 0-2 count into a seven-pitch full count, before drilling one up the middle to cut it to 2-1. Vassar reliever James Madsen came in to get the final out and save.

Scheinman had two of Skidmore's five hits, going 2-3. Mike Fogerty was 1-3 with a double.

In the second game, the Thoroughbreds went up 2-0 in the second on RBI singles by Will Potter and Fogerty. Vassar responded with four runs in its half of the inning.

The Brewers extended the lead to 6-2 before Hayden Smith was hit with a pitch with the bases loaded to cut it to 6-3. A solo home run in the bottom of the six put Vassar up 7-3. Skidmore battled back with three in the eighth, but Vassar hung on for the 7-6 win.
