GENEVA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team has earned the third seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament after a 15-4 loss to No. 17 William Smith, in the regular season finale for both teams at Boswell Field Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore (11-6, 7-3 Liberty League) will host six-seeded RIT in the Liberty League quarterfinals on Tuesday, on Wachenheim Field at 4 p.m. William Smith (12-4, 9-1) has won a share of the Liberty League regular season title and clinches the No. 1 seed with the win. As the No. 1 seed, the Herons earn a bye to the Liberty League Tournament semifinals which will be played on Boswell Field on Saturday, May 5.
Marisa Caponi led the Thoroughbreds with two goals.
Natalie LaBeau added a pair of assists.
Lilla Seymour and Anna Boogearts would add goals, with
Amanda Orvis adding an assist to complete the scoring.
Zoe Rafalowski-Houseman led the defense with three caused turnovers.
Caroline Kenlon made 12 saves in net for the loss.
Sadie Mapstone tallied five points on three goals and two assists. Anna Murphy added three goals, while Melissa Moore led both teams with four assists. Jules Kennedy needed three saves to pick up the victory. Olivia Hofmann played the final 2:31 in net in relief.
William Smith opened the scoring 5:24 into the contest. Back-to-back goals from Caponi and Seymour would give Skidmore a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately for the Thoroughbreds, it would be the only lead they held all game, as the Herons responded with a nine-goal run, which stretched into the second half.
Skidmore would get back into the scoring column near the midway point of the second half, as Boogearts scored her 10
th of the season, at the 17:11 mark. William Smith would tack on two more goals, stretching its lead to 12-3, before Caponi completed Skidmore's scoring with her goal at 12:37. William Smith would wrap up the game with three unanswered goals in the final 11:38.
Shots favored William Smith, 32-11. Skidmore would convert on just 7-of-21 clear chances, compared to William Smith's 14-for-16 performance. Each team won 10 draws.
