POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team closed the 2018 season on a high note, starting fast en route to its third straight victory, a 12-5 triumph over Vassar in Liberty League action at Gordon Field on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.

Skidmore (8-8, 3-5 Liberty League) finishes the season with eight wins, the most since the  2011 season. Vassar finishes the season with a 2-12 mark overall and a 1-7 mark in league play.

Cody Legeza finished his Skidmore career in style, tallied four points on three goals and one assist, scoring his 100th career point in the process. Eric Megnia led the Thoroughbreds with four points, on two goals and two assists. RJ Caruso tallied three points of his own, on a goal and two assists. Brendan Halloran tallied a pair of goals, while Colby Farnham scored two points on one goal and one assist. Ryan Warnock, Jack Curry, and Chris Melligon added goals to wrap up the scoring, while Jason Shlonsky added an assist. Curry, Logan Hart, and Alex Miller tallied three ground balls, while Miller adding two caused turnovers on the defensive end. Chris Baughan made 17 saves in his final game as a Thoroughbred, picking up his 22nd career win.

Nick Diamond and Dekker Stebel each tallied a goal and added an assist to lead the Brewers. Five different Brewers scored a goal. Erik Mikelinich and Matt Boyd would combine for 16 saves in the loss.

For the third straight game, Skidmore used a big first quarter to cruise to victory, tallying five goals in the opening 15 minutes. The Thoroughbreds have scored 18 first-quarter goals during the win streak.

Warnock would open the scoring in the first minute of the game, scoring in transition at 14:05. A minute later, Halloran doubled the score, tallying his 35th of the year on a feed from Caruso. Vassar would strike at the 12:07 mark to cut the lead in half, but a pair of goals a minute apart by Legeza and Caruso gave Skidmore the 4-1 lead. Legeza would get his second of the game near the end of the period, giving the Thoroughbreds a 5-1 lead, before Vassar closed the period with its second goal of the game.

The Brewers made things interesting in the second, as Tomas Meade reduced Vassar's deficit to three, at 6-3. Caruso would then answer for the Thoroughbreds, scoring at the 3:40 mark, eventually taking a 7-3 lead into the half. Skidmore would eventually pull away with four straight goals by way of man-up goals from Megnia and Halloran in the third period and even strength goals from Curry and Melligon goals in the fourth. James Thomas would score for Vassar, before Legeza ended the season with his 100th career point, on a feed from Shlonsky at 1:38.
