BENNINGTON, Vt.— Scoring 12 runs wasn't enough for the Skidmore College baseball team in a 16-12 non-league loss to Southern Vermont College Tuesday evening.
The Thoroughbreds are 13-18. Southern Vermont is 8-17.
Skidmore had 15 hits, including home runs by
Justin Bottcher,
Shawn Klier, and Pat Geiger.
Down 5-4, the Thoroughbreds scored two in the fourth and five in the fifth to open an 11-5 lead. Southern Vermont responded with five in the fifth and six more in the seventh on the way to the 16-12 final.
Six Skidmore players had multi-hit games.
Sam Beck was 3-6 with a double. Geiger was 3-6 with the homer, a double and two RBI.
Will Potter reached base for the 23
rd straight game, going 2-6 with a triple and two runs. Klier was 2-6 with two runs, a homer, a double and three RBI.
Jake Hardy went 2-4 with two RBI, and
Nate Scheinman was 2-5.
The Thoroughbreds used eight pitchers, with
Jack Walter and
Jacob Berish each tossing a scoreless inning. Matt McQuiad (0-1) lost in relief.
Skidmore will host Rochester in four Liberty League games this weekend, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
