POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team stood tall after a battle of unbeaten Liberty League teams, shutting out Vassar by a 9-0 score at the Josselyn Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon.
 
Skidmore (12-4, 7-0 Liberty League), ranked 17
th in the latest ITA Division III national polls, won its 18
th consecutive league match (regular and postseason). Vassar (12-4, 6-1), ranked 30
th in the country, snaps its win streak at five.
 
Skidmore was dominant in singles play, winning five of its six matches in straight sets. 
Risa Fukushige and 
Michelle Fuca won their matches in dominant fashion at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. Fukushige defeated Frances Cornwall 6-3, 6-0 while Fuca defeated Courtney Geiss, 6-3, 6-0. 
Ada Wiggins, 
Laura Swenson, and 
Jessica Ampel were also solid in singles wins. After winning the first set at No. 3, 
Renee Karchere-Sun dropped the second, but would rally with a 10-5 win in the third set against Meghan Rodick, picking up the 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 victory.
 
The Thoroughbreds dominated in two of its three doubles matches. Fuca and Fukushige earned an 8-1 victory over Tara Edwards and Kate Christensen at No. 1 and 
Jessica Ampel and 
Alexa Goldberg took an 8-6 victory over Geiss and Rodick at No. 3. Karchere-Sun and Wiggins faced a battle at No. 2, but came out on top with a 9-7 victory over Dasha Ivenitsky and Sarra Yekta.
 
Skidmore will head to the Big Apple, taking on No. 21 NYU in its next match, on Sunday at 11 a.m.
